Spring Style Tips featuring Rock Paper Scissors Consignment
Monday high of 65, Wednesday, snow flurries. I have a love hate relationship with this weather. The love is partly due to all the transitional fashion options we are able to utilize. Unlucky yes, to have six months with a chance of snow but so lucky to have several style seasons a year! Here are some tips on how to take great style advantage of this awkward season, featuring an an amazing local shop with the perfect pieces for every season!
Rock Paper Scissors Consignment is a local jewel presenting classic and on trend items for every season and every style. Located in Grand Rapids’ charming midtown area, RPS truly has something for everyone. I cannot go in without finding multiple must have items. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful and have an amazing knowledge of what’s on trend currently. RPS is a member of Local First and they truly enjoy connecting with fellow community members. This genuinely inviting charisma is palpable from the moment you walk in to the sentiment as you exit (most certainly with bags in hand).
RPS is currently running Spring fashion and accepting new pieces Thursdays through Saturdays. New items are merchandised Monday through Wednesday and are only kept for 60 days so there is always a new treasure waiting for you. Bring in items you’re ready to share and find replacements to make your wardrobe fresh. With prices set to be fair to the consignor and the shopper, it’s a bargain hunter’s style heaven!
Items and brands you can find at RPS include:
Denim, colored and printed pants
Dresses for work or fun
Tops and sweaters
Jackets and coats
Shoes, bags, scarves
Even nail polish and fragrance
In sizes 00/XS – 18/XL
The North Face
Dooney & Burke
And many more
All of this is presented in a clean and organized setting that’s easy to shop. Not like any consignment boutique you’ve seen. Check it out, I know you’ll love it!
Some simple tricks for transitioning your Winter clothes into Spring and utilizing Spring items to progress from the long Winter. Styled with merchandise from Rock Paper Scissors
Keeping sweaters while including warmer weather options such as skirts and shorts is a simple way to radiate Spring style but still be weather appropriate. Mixing stereo-typically edgy items such as leather with very feminine pieces such as light pink velvet is fun and fashion forward.
Velvet and perforated items are very hot this Spring and will continue to be throughout the year. Less traditional fabrics such as suede and leather are also trending so find them now.
Continuing with Spring bottoms and warm tops, I’m obsessed with this Free People jacket from RPS with the perfectly on trend lace up detailing, a facet that is everywhere this Spring. It’s so flattering I know it will be around for a while so don’t hesitate. Also, cream is a year round color, not just for summer so get it now! Finally, the ever classic collared shirts and statement jewelry is look that never fails and in bright colors it can immediately make your look feel more like Spring.

Layering long sleeve tops under sleeveless Spring pieces is a great option for transitioning into your Spring wardrobe while it’s still, inconsistently chilly outside. Sandals may be a stretch for March but in just a few weeks they will be much more familiar (as long as the snow holds off)
Light fabric and brighter neutrals such as white and beige can also give your style a more Springtime feel even if the sleeves and hemlines are still modest.

Wearing pullover sweaters with dresses is one of my favorite ways to reinvent pieces in my wardrobe. The less typical option, opposing the standby cardigan, creates a more personal style and creates so many style combinations! The classic shirt dress isn’t going anywhere, it’s a great investment and wardrobe staple.

Even dark velvet can be transitioned easily into the next season with bright Spring accessories. Also I heard it was a general rule that your shoes should not be lighter than your hem but I truly believe that’s an outdated statement. There are too many style options and we have come too far in embracing individuality to adhere to so many style rules.
Printed pants. Need I say more? Honestly I never thought I would embrace them personally even though I love the idea. Then I found these and I had to have for myself before I could even post about them! Now I believe that if you have any interest the right pair of printed pants could be out there for you. (I’ve seen several cute pair at RPS) What a fun way to keep those necessary, heavy sweaters while embracing the inevitable season change.

Even more fun is how much you can embody Spring when it’s just a bit warmer! I generally don’t dress with a lot of color but I have to be honest I felt so happy in this mix of brights and I love the look. Sometimes you just have to allow the right pieces to find each other as you’re creating looks rather than thinking so much. Plus, how fun is this top?!
